After failing to make weight at 145 lbs Cris "Cyborg" Santos (7-1-0)  defeated Hiromi Akano (14-6-0) at a catchweight of 150 lbs Saturday night at Strikeforce. After being granted more time Santos came within five pounds of the contracted weight, however Akano still refused to fight at a higher weight. An agreement was finally reached with Akano.

Santos effectively used her physical superiority throughout the fight, pounding Akano with strikes and controlling her on the mat.

After nailing Akano with a devastating knee strike to the face and a flurry of punches, Santos got the victory via TKO at 35 seconds of round 3.

After the fight through an interpreter Santos apologized to her fans and the MMA world for not making weight and also stated that she wants to be recognized as the best female MMA fighter in the world. She also indicated that that Gina Carano wouldn't get in her way as Carano looked on from ringside.
