Strikeforce announced last week the August 15^th fight between Gina Carano and Christiane “Cyborg”Santos received the go ahead from the California State Athletic Commission for five-minute rounds instead of three-minutes. MMAJunkie.com reported this morning that Friday’s fight between Sarah Kaufman (9-0) Shayna Baszler (9-5) will also be set for three, five-minute rounds meaning that the Washington State Athletic Commission has also joined the fray.

Strikeforce executive Mike Afromowitz said that, while he believed that five minute rounds for women would eventually be the standard, the call would be made on a fight-by-fight basis.

As it will also be a state-to-state decision it probably isn’t going to happen overnight.
