Cyborg discusses her upcoming fight with Gina Carano, training and more
WF: Thank you for giving me this opportunity to catch up with you. First and foremost congratulations on your most recent win against Hitomi Akano! You’re now on a 7 win streak! What are your thoughts on Gina Carano’s fighting skills? Do you see a fight with her on your feet or on the ground?
CS: I find a great fighter in Gina! I believe that our battle will change the perception of female mma. Gina likes Muay Thai which is great because I am training to fight on the ground! WF: There was a bit of controversy regarding your last fight and not making weight. What has already happened is in the past and your fans seem to appreciate that you’ve stated that it won’t happen again. As we have seen with other fighters who’ve done the same, most have been discredited when the act is repeated. What are some steps or changes that you think you might make before weigh-ins to ensure this situation doesn’t occur again?
CS: In my last fight I had problems, but talking about the reasons is going to change the thoughts of people in relation to me. But what can I say is give me a vote of confidence! I am very professional and I am showing this in the cage! WF: I read recently that are you are one of the coaches for the reality show Ultimate Women’s Combat that is scheduled to premiere in late 2009 or early 2010. Can you tell me a little bit about that?
CS: I think it will be a great opportunity to show my work and the work of the fighters! I still have nothing concrete to say on the subject though! WF: Chute Box is home to some of the best fighters in the world. Many others have at one time or another in their careers trained there. Tell me about your camp, your training routine and your trainers. CS: This is my second home, where I find all my days of training. I seek more wisdom each day and also help my training partners who are preparing for war! Our training and our very discipline - remember the movie 300! WF: When did you start training MMA? What got you into the sport? Were there any childhood influences for you to contribute to your fighting career? Give me a little personal history please. CS: I always liked sports and competed in handball for 12 years in school ... I also loved running and athletics. I did the Heptathlon which included, shooting 200 m, 110m high hurdles, 800 meters, weight throw, javelin throw, jump and leap! Practiced so much .. I started martial arts at 19 when I it was invited to a class of Muay Thai. It was incredible. I loved it so much I left the other sports! And I fought within my first 6 months of training against Erica Paes (BTT), and unfortunately lost. WF: What is a typical day like for you in between fights? When does the intensity start to kick up or do you stay “fight ready” at all times?
CS: I try to train every day ... if I'm not training I watch fighting .. and my life .. my routine and have fights every day in the gym ... and go through the routine! WF: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
CS: I want to thank GOD first for guiding ME ... AND FOR ALL THE PEOPLE THAT STOOD BY ME! THANK YOU VERY MUCH! HEEEEEEEEEEEY Chute BOXING! |
