Jen Tate (pictured) will take on Kaitlin Young in the opening round of the Freestyle Cage Fighting 135 pound tournament.
FCF Grand Prix Update
According to Robert Sargent at MMARising, Freestyle Cage Fighting has announced the tournament brackets for their 8-woman 135-pound tournament, the opening round of which will take place on January 30th in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The roster is as follows:
AJ Jenkins (16-2) vs. Sarah Schneider (4-3)
Jenkins is on a five-fight winning streak, and none of her fights have gone past the first round. Schneider lost to Sarah Kaufman this past April, but there's no shame in that, and she has notable wins over Julie Kedzie and Kaitlin Young.
Jan Finney (6-7) vs. Liz Carreiro (5-5)
Finney's last two fights were only one week apart and she finished both of her opponents in the first round via knockout. Her weakness in the past has been submission defense. Carreiro has won four out of her five fights by submission, so this is an interesting matchup for sure.
Kaitlin Young (4-3) vs. Jen Tate (5-1)
Katilin and Jen both have tremendous Muay Thai games, but all of Young's wins have come by way of knockout whereas Tate always has some submissions up her sleeve. Will be interesting to see where this fight goes.
Megumi Yabushita (18-15) vs. Shayna Baszler (9-6)
Yabushita fights primarily in Japan, with all but one of her wins coming by submission or decision. Baszler, who lost her last two fights to Sarah Kaufman and Cris "Cyborg" Santos is looking to turn her luck around. She is a tough fighter and good at pulling random submissions out of thin air, so maybe we'll get to see some of that as this fight will most likely go to the ground. ===========
