Vale Tudo is Portuguese for 'anything goes'. Vale Tudo competitions were unarmed combat with minimal rules. Regular boxing rings were the home of the no-holds-barred competitions. Knockouts or submission would decide the winner. The Vale Tudo, also called Luta Livre, reached its height in the sixties and allowed the famous Gracie Family to establish its dominance on hand to hand combat.
Vale Tudo History
1920’s Brazilian circuses were the first home of Vale Tudo booth fighting. The term, though, did not become popular until the late 50's when bouts were shown on a popular Rio television show.
Vale Tudo Techniques
Vale Tudo combines various styles including submission holds, grappling and striking (all punches and combos).
